COACHING ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM

The British Columbia Soccer Association and its Technical Department is pleased to announce the establishment of the COACHING ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM.  This is a NEW and enhanced initiative in Coach Education offered to aspiring coaches who wish to learn more about coaching and gain valuable hands-on experience being involved with the highest level in youth football development in British Columbia.  This opportunity is made available in conjunction with the established BCSA Provincial Teams Programming.  Its aim is to provide the chance for coaches to develop through program experiences with guidance from appointed Provincial Team Head Coaches and by working closely with the Technical Department of the British Columbia Soccer Association and its overall vision of player and coaching development.

 

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

 

  1. To TARGET aspiring Coaches in the game who wish to experience hands-on opportunities and learn more about coaching.
  2. To PROVIDE a positive, safe and challenging learning environment for Coaches in the game of football.
  3. To OFFER guidance through the involvement and the delivery of a developmental program through responsible and challenging task completion.
  4. To ASSIST in establishing the confidence required for coaches interested in pursuing the recognized path of certification as outlined by the Canadian Soccer Association.

 

PROGRAM OUTLINE

 

The COACHING ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM is extended to all Assistant/Apprentice Coaches, Male and Female, who are accepted to the program through an application process (described below).  An annual curriculum is provided in a workbook form to these Coaches at the beginning of their term who are then responsible for completing various tasks applicable to their level of qualification as outlined.  These tasks are aimed at enhancing the Coach Educational benefits while supporting the established National Certification Pathway.

The PDF document / diagram below charts the path of the Coach who enters the COACHING ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM based on their level of qualification and for a maximum term of two (2) years.  This term limit (as described below under Program Term Limits) has been established to provide a responsible rotation thereby offering new Coaches an opportunity to become an integral part of these coach educational experiences:

PROCESS

 

  1. Interested coaches must forward an application to the Coaching Development Department as per the posting positions for Assistant Coach and or Female Apprentice Coach under the COACHING ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM link on the BCSA website.
  2. Coaches will be appointed into positions limited to availability and based on an interview or a review process.
  3. The selected coaches are to complete the workbook tasks throughout the term and then mail it in to the attention of Rob Csabai (Coaching Development Department) by the submission deadline.
  4. The respective Head Coach will give feedback on the tasks completed (in the workbook) prior to mailing it in.
  5. A review of the work will be done and Coaches will be provided with feedback from the BCSA Coaching Development Department.  The workbook will be mailed back with future recommendations and comments.

 

REVIEW / EVALUATION

 

At the completion of the Provincial Team Program, Coaches will have a scheduled meeting with the Head Coach and review the following:

Ø   The experiences within the COACHING ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM

Ø   The Coach’s personal performance

Ø   Guidance for the future

 

After this discussion, the respective Head Coach will complete and return the “Review / Feedback” form at the back of the workbook as it pertains to this program.   

 

PROGRAM TERM LIMITS

 

  • If a Coach has successfully completed PHASE I-II (term 1) and is in good standing with the British Columbia Soccer Association while meeting the Technical Department’s Coach Education standards and initiatives, he or she will be re-appointed into the program to continue at PHASE III-IV of the following term. 
  • If a coach enters directly into PHASE III-IV (term 2) based on a higher certification level, then the coach’s involvement would be complete at the end of this term. 
  • Involvement in the COACHING ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM will be for a maximum term of two (2) years thereby offering a rotation of coaches who can benefit from this opportunity and its coach educational experiences.

 

NOTE:  COACHING CERTIFICATION

  • With successful completion of PHASE I-II, coaches will be encouraged to pursue the next level of certification and in preparation for the next term. 
  • As Coaches complete PHASE III-IV they will be encouraged to pursue other opportunities in the game taking with them the experiences they have gained thereby concluding their term(s) in the program. 
  • During the program, coaches in good standing will have their course fees covered to meet the objectives of the COACHING ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM throughout all four (4) PHASES and in support of the National Certification Pathway.

 

Application Process
 
How do I become involved as a member of the team staff within the BCSA Provincial Teams Program?
 
Annually the BCSA Technical Department reviews applications for individuals who are interested in any of the positions associated with the operation of a team.
