Assessor Training
The BCSA Referee Development Program is in the midst of training all assessors on the new CSA referee assessment forms and marking scheme. This program includes a three hour workshop and covers material such as new forms, training assessors on the observation of officials, as well as ensuring officials use the following FIFA documents as a basis for referring: Guidelines for Referees and Guidelines for Assistant Referees
Instructor Training
Recently the Referee Development Programs education arm has been training instructors on the new entry level referee course. This training has occurred in Victoria, Vancouver and Kelowna in the past month. The basis of this course is to give the new referees more on-field practical training.
Candidates Program
The Candidates Program is a program to develop referees to officiate at a higher level. It has been running twice a week out of Burnaby Lake turf and is open to officials who are interested in improving and moving up. Each session combines one hour physical training and one hour in-class training. Recently the following four participants from this program officiated at the Dallas Cup: Marco Arruda, Candace Brown, Chris Wattam, and Josh Miller. The group was very successful at this international high caliber tournament with three of the four selected to officiate in finals and the other involved in a semi-final match.
The Dallas Cup involves professional teams such as Liverpool, Sao Paulo, and Benfica.
Coastal Cup
The referee program will be contacting officials to officiate in both the Coastal Cup and the Provincial Cup for the next month. These games will be assessed and referees will gain valuable experience in officiating in these matches. If called upon to officiate these games, please understand that the BCSA Competition Committee has requested a one match per day limit on officials to ensure their quality. These matches will be scheduled via email.
BC Assessor Selected to National List of Assessors
The BCSA is excited to have Tiberio De Frias chosen to be added to the list of National Assessors. Tiberio has worked hard, moving through the system from a District Referee Assessor all the way to National Referee Assessor. He has also been assisting referees to improve themselves for years.
