It is with great sadness we inform the soccer community of the recent passing of John Jukes, a long-time member of our soccer community. John passed away at his home in North Vancouver on July 16, 2010 (born July 26, 1957)
John was an outstanding contributor to the Metro Women’s Soccer League both as a Director and as the “go to guy” for information about the league. He became a director in 1988 and was an integral part of the league for many years. He assisted in building the league from 50 to over 200 teams and did everything from handling incoming calls and inquiries to reporting; he was a tireless “behind the scenes” worker and just wanted the league to run smoothly.
John was also an active advocate of the world of refereeing and was a regular attendee of the Vancouver Referee Association meetings.
John will be greatly missed by all those who had the pleasure of working with him; he was truly an unsung hero of the women’s game.
Our thoughts are with John’s family, friends and those who knew him best.
Memorial services are being planned for August 2010.
