BCSA SEEKING VOLUNTEERS

Within the BCSA, there is on ongoing requirement for volunteers to assist in a numerous activities in research and development as well as presenting the game across the Province. If you have a special interest or skill you would like to share in this building process, please review the listed areas of interest and submit your application.  All appointments are for one year term.

General Information to Applicants

 

Background: Complete the Application Form and attach a resume along with an outline of your experience relating to the area(s) in which you have an interest. Also provide a short outline of your reasons for wishing to volunteer in a specific area. While applications will be accepted and screened throughout the year, applications submitted by June 30, 2008, will be considered for early assignments in the 2008/2009 season.

 

Geographical: Applications are encouraged from all geographical areas of the Province as much of the work can be accomplished either by email or by means of conference calls although some in-person attendance at meetings may be required. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals in the more remote areas to become involved in activities at the Provincial level.

 

Diversity: The BCSA President, Board, Committee Chairs and Staff will work toward attaining a diversity of appointments (ethnicity, gender, etc.) that is representative of the wider soccer community.

 

Conflict of Interest: Applicants may be employees or elected members of a club, district or league, however, all successful applicants will be required to make a declaration of Conflict of Interest or potential Conflicts of Interest that may exist with regard to their service in a specific area.

 

Risk Management: Successful applicants must complete Risk Management Forms as required by the BCSA rules.

 

Areas of Interest [1]

Competitions, Policy & Planning: A sound knowledge of BCSA Competitions including the Rules and Regulations. An interest in working with the Board of Directors, Staff, Leagues and Districts in completing a comprehensive review of the BCSA competitions system with the goal of providing recommendations for structural changes that may be needed to insure competitions remain relevant and continue to meet the needs of the membership at both the youth and adult level.

Competitions & Events (Presentation): Members will assist in preparation for and presentation of BCSA Competitions and Special Events. Experience in the various facets of event presentation is an asset. Some travel may be required.

 

Constitution and Bylaws:  A sound working knowledge of the BCSA Bylaws, Rules and Regulations is essential as is an ability to analyze, prepare and present recommendations to the board and membership for consolidating and/or amending these bylaws, rules, regulations or policies. Assistance will also be required in planning for a systematic review the Constitution and Bylaws of member organizations as mandated in the BCSA Bylaws.


Legal Processes, Policy & Planning:
 Individuals with a legal background and/or an interest in administration of quasi-judicial processes is important. A sound working knowledge of the Rules and Regulations related to: Risk Management, Harassment, Protests, Discipline and Appeals as well as an ability to analyze, prepare and present recommendations for consolidating and/or amending the rules in these respective areas.


Background Research and Holding Hearings:
Volunteers will be assigned according, to their knowledge and skills, to one or more of the areas of Risk Management, Harassment, Protests, Discipline or Appeals. A solid practical knowledge of the rules and regulations as relate to one or more of these areas as well as an ability to manage background research and to conduct hearings. A solid understanding of quasi-judicial processes as is skills in preparing and writing reports on decisions. Successful candidates may be required to complete an appropriate skills enhancement course for specific duties (e.g. Harassment Officers). 


 Diversity:  
Strong interest and background in promoting opportunities to play soccer for children and adults regardless of challenges relating to racial or ethnic backgrounds, disabilities (both physical and developmental), financial means or other attributes of difference. This working group may be tasked with providing specialized advice to the Board and Staff on emerging diversity issues within the soccer community.

 Finance:  Professional background in finance and an ability to comprehend financial statements.
Members of this committee will be required to assist with the development of the annual financial report and budget, which accompanies  the actual financial year-end statement. Other areas of interest include Human Resources and other financial matters related to Sponsorship, Branding and Development.  Assistance will also be required in planning for a systematic review  of the Annual Financial Reports of member organizations as mandated in the BCSA By-laws.


Fields and Facilities:
Business background in working with various levels of government including provincial and/or municipal and Parks and Recreation authorities to establish partnerships to cultivate opportunities for field and facility development joint ventures, including the solicitation of funding sources and the sharing of best practices with interested  BCSA member groups.


Membership:
Thorough knowledge of the rules relating to the Rights and Responsibilities of being a member of the BCSA, CSA and FIFA family and an interest in making presentations to soccer groups about the advantages of membership. The committee will be tasked with reviewing the relationship of BCSA to non-traditional groups such as private academies. Duties include the screening of membership applications as well as assisting in making recommendations for completing and implementing a Member Charter that is currently in the process of being developed.


Governance:
Nominations and recruitment; developing a volunteer base; board and volunteer orientation and education; succession planning; performance assessment of the board, committees of the board and Executive Director; application of Code of Conduct, Conflict of Interest and Ethics are the main areas of interest. Individuals must possess of solid knowledge of the many aspects of governance as relate to the functioning of a provincial Board of Directors.  

  

Scholarships and Awards:  Developing and implementing a process for receiving, reviewing and making recommendations to the Board of Directors.  Previous experience in this type of work is an asset.

Strategic Planning:  For individuals having a sound knowledge, work experience and interest in the strategic planning process.

Technical Planning:  A strong interest in and solid knowledge of the many aspects of the technical development including all aspects of player, coaching and referee development in British Columbia and across Canada.
