League 1 BC

League1 BC is an adult, open-age Pro-Am Soccer League operated by BC Soccer. Established in 2021, the league is intended to bridge the gap between youth and professional soccer, targeting the “Training to Compete” stage within Long-term Player Development (LTPD).

League 1 BC

The League will engage communities across British Columbia providing standard-based competition and training environments for female and male players, coaches, and referees. League1 BC serves as a key platform of development into further opportunities within the game.

The 3 pillars of League1 BC are “Community”, “Opportunity” and “Standards-Based”.

7 clubs kicked-off an 84-game schedule on May 22nd, 2022; Vancouver Whitecaps FC, TSS Rovers FC (Burnaby), Rivers FC (Kamloops), Altitude FC (North Shore), Unity FC (Langley), Victoria Highlanders FC, and Varsity FC (Vancouver/Point Grey). The inaugural Championship Double Header will be held on Monday August 1st (BC Day) at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby. A female representative club from League1 BC will compete in a first ever Women’s Interprovincial Championship, a collaboration between Première Ligue de soccer du Québec (PLSQ), League1 Ontario, and BC Soccer.

The semi finals for this event will be held Friday August 12th, with the Championship Final held on Sunday August 14th.

League Structure/Oversight

League 1 BC is operated by BC Soccer, with support from the Canadian Premier League (CPL) and Canadian Soccer Business (CSB) and is a founder partner of League1 Canada.  Strategic direction and oversight is lead by the Steering Committee and includes General Manager Sian Bagshawe who oversee the day-today operations of the league.  Each participating club is defined as a “license holder” with a minimum 3-year commitment.

Expansion

In October of 2022, League1 BC confirmed its 8th club following an extensive expansion process. Harbourside Football Club will operate in Nanaimo at an expanded facility  kicking off in the 2023 season.
