BC Soccer will host six FREE Referee Refresher Clinics to help ensure all registered referees in the Coastal region are educated and up to date on the FIFA Laws of the Game

Vancouver BC, August 13, 2014 - All BC Soccer registered referees must complete a BC Soccer Referee Refresher Clinic each year to maintain their status as a registered referee and BC Soccer is hosting six FREE Referee Refresher Clinics to help ensure all coastal season referees are able to complete the clinic by the deadline of November 15.  BC Soccer will host three of the free courses in Burnaby with the other three held in Langley between the dates of August 18, 2014 and October 6, 2014.

“We are really excited to be able to offer these clinics as it allows referees from all over the lower mainland the opportunity to sign up for these refresher clinics which provide them with the prerequisites to maintain their BC Soccer Registered Referee Status,” said John Reed, BC Soccer Referee Committee Chair “ The BC Soccer Referee Refresher Clinic also ensures that BC Soccer’s referees are kept up to date with FIFA Laws of the Game as well as it keeps referees continuing their referee education which is of the upmost importance.”

On an annual basis BC Soccer’s Registered Referees in the Coastal Region must attend a Referee Refresher Clinic in the late Summer or early Fall (between August 15 and November 15), which enables them to register annually.   All member organizations are able to request and host a  BC Soccer Referee Clinic and in addition to those member hosted clinics BC Soccer is  pleased to be offering six FREE additional Referee Refresher Clinic in the lower mainland.

“The Referee Refresher clinic is a great way to bring referees together at the beginning of the season and not only does it update them all on the new FIFA Laws of the Game but these refreshers helps us get the practical uniformity in interpretation of these laws from all our referees, entry level to FIFA,” said John Nielsen,  BC Soccer Referee Refresher Clinic Instructor. “Continued education is extremely important in refereeing, much like in coaching, and I’m really looking forward to working alongside and helping educated BC Soccer’s referees at the Referee Refresher Clinics.
