All Eight BCSPL Franchise Clubs Achieve BC Soccer High Performance License

Vancouver BC, September 27, 2017 – BC Soccer is proud to announce all eight BCSPL franchise clubs have met the BC Soccer High Performance License. In 2016 BC Soccer introduced the High Performance License, as a free service designed to assist and support all the BCSPL Franchise Clubs in maintaining and enhancing high performance/technical development standards. The standards, which were created with input from Canada Soccer, Whitecaps FC, and the Technical Directors of the BCSPL franchise clubs, promote a player first mentality and support the Canada Soccer’s Long Term Player Development Model.

Over the past 12 months the BCSPL Franchise clubs, their technical directors and team coaches have been working hard to achieve the criteria outlined in the High Performance License.

“BC Soccer would like to thank all the BCSPL Franchise Clubs for their commitment to maintaining and increasing technical standards throughout the league, said Carlos Grosso, High Performance Committee Chair. “We also want to thank Canada Soccer for their guidance and support on this initiative as well as Whitecaps FC for their feedback and support.

All eight BCSPL Franchise Clubs have demonstrated that they are providing the highest level of training and game environments to support the players in their programming. The franchise clubs are meeting numerous criterion including but not limited to; providing a 3:1 training to game ratio, creating and implementing an Annual Plan,  appointing ‘B’ National trained or Canada Soccer equivalency qualified Head Coaches, as well as attending BC Soccer and Canada Soccer workshops and education sessions.

“On behalf of BC Soccer we would like to congratulate all BCSPL franchise clubs and look forward to continuing to work with them in maintaining and raising the technical standards within the BCSPL, to further the development of BC players” Kjeld Brodsgaard, President, BC Soccer.

To support the BCSPL Franchise clubs throughout the process, each franchise club received game footage videos to support match analysis as well as technical documentation including resources from BC Soccer, Canada Soccer, and Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

“It is very pleasing that all eight BCSPL clubs have committed to delivering the standards within the High Performance License; all BCSPL Franchise Clubs have demonstrated that they are providing the best possible environment for player and coach development, which is a real credit to the Technical Directors and coaching staff”, said Chris Cerroni, Director of Soccer Development, BC Soccer. “There are many learnings taken from the first year of the HP License from a BC Soccer standpoint and through further consultation with Canada Soccer, Vancouver Whitecaps FC and the BCSPL Franchise Clubs, the HP License criteria and monitoring process will evolve with the aim of continuing to improve technical standards within the BCSPL to support the players involved”.
