BC Soccer Announces 2017-2018 Award Winners

20+ individuals, 2 teams and 1 club recognized for their incredible contributions to soccer

Vancouver BC, May 25 – The BC Soccer Board of Directors and the BC Soccer Membership recognize a few exceptional individuals, clubs, and teams each year at the BC Soccer Awards and Scholarship Luncheon. These awards help show BC Soccer’s appreciation for their contributions to soccer within this province.  This year was no exception as 20 individuals, 2 teams, 1 club, and a team coaching staff were all presented awards for their outstanding achievements and contributions to soccer throughout British Columbia.


“It is always a great honor to be able to present these awards to a few outstanding people, teams and clubs,” said Leanna Napolitano, BC Soccer Board of Director and Awards and Scholarships Committee Chair. “Every year thousands of people dedicate their time and energy to make soccer in British Columbia the best it can be and we are thankful to be able to recognize just a few individuals who truly went above and beyond.”

The BC Soccer Board of Directors are proud to nominate, select and present the following four awards to individuals and clubs for their longstanding achievements in Soccer. These awards are presented to individuals who have dedicated years of service to soccer within British Columbia.

The BC Soccer Board of Directors are proud to present Jackie Larson with the BC Soccer Life Member Award. The Life Member Award is presented to an individual in recognition of long time services and distinguished contributions to soccer in British Columbia.  Long time is generally defined as over 20 years!
The A.C. Sanford Award is presented to an individual in recognition of long time exceptional service to soccer “Long time”. This year the BC Soccer Board is pleased to present the A.C. Sanford Award to Roger Barnes.

Established by the BC Soccer Board of Directors in 2016 the Special Recognition Award is presented to an individual or organization in recognition of exceptional service and contributions to soccer in British Columbia. This year the Special Recognition Award will be present to Surrey United Women’s Soccer Team.

The Presidents Award is presented to a league, district, or club in recognition of exceptional achievement in the presentation of a community event. Nominated and selected by the BC Soccer Board of Directors, this year’s President’s Award recipient is Central City Breakers.

The Awards of Merit are nominated by the BC Soccer Membership as well as the Board of Directors and are presented to individuals in recognition of contributions to soccer, during a period of ten or more years, as a player, manager, coach, official, or administrator at the club/league or district Level. This year BC Soccer is proud to present the Awards of Merit to PJ ‘Heany, Brian Royer-Collard, Coin Guise, Danny Van Gylswyk, Fred Quan, Kerry Dyck, Ash Mohtadi

The Woman of Distinction Award is nominated by the BC Soccer membership and selected by the BC Soccer Board of Directors.  The award is presented to a woman who has dedicated an incredible amount time and energy to bettering the game of soccer across the province. This could be through, but not limited to, fairplay, coaching, excelling on the pitch, refereeing, dedication to administration.  This year BC Soccer and the BC Soccer board of Directors are honored to present the Woman of Distinction Award to Jas Mander

BC Soccer also presents awards to a few individuals for their accomplishments throughout the past year. These awards are nominated by the membership and are selected by the BC Soccer Board of Directors. From administrators who help leagues and clubs run smoothly to the players who score (or save) goals, BC Soccer is proud to award these select individuals with their respective awards.

Youth Player of the Year Female – Jordyn Huitema and Julia Grosso
Youth Player of the Year Male – Simon Colyn
Youth Official of the Year – Joseph Ratcliffe
