BC Soccer announces 2020 Scholarship Recipients

The quality and quantity of submissions was overwhelming in this very unusual year.

Sept 8, 2020 – Vancouver BC

Despite an extremely challenging and disrupted school year, BC Soccer is pleased to announce its 2020 class of Scholarship recipients.   Although this year’s High School graduating class had to endure uncertainty, a complete change in routine and vastly different celebration ceremonies, BC Soccer Scholarship applications nearly doubled from last year.

This year’s necessary change to a video submission process also provided us with a wonderful insight into some extraordinary young people, and the impact our sport has had on their growth, development and educational pursuits.

Through photos and video clips, our candidates shared their personal stories and relationship with the game which left our selection panel with some of the most difficult decisions since BC Soccer began the scholarship program.  The videos were created in addition to a written application outlining scholastic achievements.

We would like to sincerely thank everyone who applied, and our generous donors, who continue to see the value of investing in young people, despite the financial pressures of the last 6 months.  We’d also like to acknowledge the Scholarship committee led by BC Soccer Director Leanna Napolitano, and this year’s Awards and Scholarships Selection Panel.

We invite you to watch the videos of our 16 recipients posted on our scholarships page, and over the coming weeks we plan to feature some of the other 2020 graduate video submissions as well.
