BC Soccer Board of Directors makes the difficult and unprecedented decision to cancel Adult Provincial Championships

Board decides to cancel 2020 Adult Provincial Championships.

June 30th, 2020 - Vancouver BC

Since the outbreak of COVID19, soccer activity in BC has been impacted greatly. On May 12, 2020 BC Soccer informed the members, affiliated clubs and public of the Board of Directors’ decision to cancel the 2020 Youth Provincial Championships.

Unfortunately, today the BC Soccer Board of Directors is informing all of the recent decision to also cancel the 2020 Adult Provincial Championships.

With the Return to Play for soccer currently operating solely in-club with modified/distance individual training, and no indication from the BC health authorities and ViaSport on when we will be able to progress to the next phase for soccer, at this past weekend’s (June 27th) regular meeting, the Board determined that in the best interests and safety of everyone involved, the Adult Provincials that was scheduled to take place in Burnaby would be cancelled.

BC Soccer’s decision comes four days after Canada Soccer announced the cancelation of all 2020 National and Regional Championships.

Obviously, these are incredible decisions that are not taken lightly, and we sincerely empathize with all impacted members and the players/participants. We thank everyone for their understanding as we continue to navigate through these challenging times.
