BC Soccer to Facilitate Small Sided Referee Clinic Offerings

BC Soccer is pleased to inform the membership and soccer community of the new and streamlined process to request and host Small Sided Referee Clinics, which takes effect for clinics being offered as of April 1, 2014.  This new process is directly linked to the BC Soccer Strategic Plan, specifically the to increase the number of qualified BC Soccer registered and small sided game referees

At the June 2013 Annual General Meeting, the BC Soccer memberships (Youth District and Adult Leagues) approved an amendment within Rule 18 – Referees specifically regarding Small Sided Referees.  Previously this level of referee was under the jurisdiction of each individual Youth District, the amendment move this jurisdiction to be directly under BC Soccer, which is similar to all our registered referees in the province.

2013 Proposed Admendments

What this means is that all Small Sided Referee Clinic offerings will now be centrally managed by BC Soccer via the Ref Center (BC Soccer online referee management system).

Youth District and/or Club looking to host this level clinic will request the clinic in the same manner as Entry Level and Refresher Referee Clinics which is via the Ref Centre.  Hosts are able to set up these clinics with the same options as all other referee clinics, including being private (only open to individuals within their organization), public (open to all), or a combination of the two, while also being able to specific is the host covers the clinic fee for the attendees or if the individual is responsible to pay their clinic fee.

Hosts will be able to request the Small Sided Level Referee Clinic via the Ref Centre as of March 1, 2014 for clinic being offered from April 1, 2014 onward.

BC Soccer will appoint all Small Sided Instructors to facilitate the requested clinics, which is the same process for the Entry Level and Refresher Referee Clinics.

About BC Soccer Referee Program

The BC Soccer's Referee Program exists to support and foster the development and education of referees from the grassroots to elite levels of refereeing throughout British Columbia.

The goal of BC Soccer is to provide member referees across British Columbia with the tools necessary to help build the future of soccer in British Columbia and to development referees.

If referees strive to be successful they will need more than law interpretation skill and experience; although these are both indispensable. Being a successful soccer referee is about personal desire towards continuing education and learning about the game and the Laws which govern it.

The BC Soccer Referee Program needs to be a shared and cooperative program with a proactive vision for the betterment of the game. Ultimately, OUR success will be measured by the growth of the game, at all levels, in British Columbia.
