Vancouver BC, April 15 – BC Soccer has unveiled its new U9-U12 Festival Grants Program. The promotion of grassroots soccer has always been one of BC Soccer’s priorities and the new Festival Grant Program will help communities and grassroots soccer clubs and districts, in collaboration with BC Soccer, deliver an outstanding grassroots festival for kids age U9-U12. The main objective for grassroots programming across the province is to bring the enjoyment of soccer to as many people as possible.   BC Soccer promotes this and believes their new Festival Grant Program will help achieve this objective.

“We are very happy to be able to offer this Festival Grant Program as it will create a great opportunity for members and affiliate members to engage their community and young soccer players in a fun and entertaining environment,” said Don Dancey, BC Soccer Board of Directors. “Grassroots festivals are great for community building, supporting and active lifestyle and helping kids enjoy the sport we love in a non-competitive way.”

Based on the FIFA Grassroots Festival model, BC Soccer’s Festival Grant Program provides a youth district or club with the opportunity to co-host a grassroots festival with BC Soccer. The promotion and development of grassroots soccer does not just mean financial assistance; it also involves a much wider commitment to setting up the necessary infrastructures to allow member associations, coaches and participants to take an active role in soccer in their community.

“There have been some incredibly successful grassroots festivals already, including one in Squamish last weekend, and being able to work with these local clubs and districts to help deliver a fun and  professional festival is great opportunity for everyone involved,” said Dan Turvill, BC Soccer Competitions Coordinator.”

An integral part of BC Soccer’ Strategic Plan is a commitment to presenting and co-hosting of U9 to U12 programming across all regions in British Columbia. BC Soccer is pleased to introduce these grassroots festivals to celebrate soccer around the province as  these fun filled and educational festivals have been designed to cultivate the game by providing opportunities for young players to play and learn new techniques and skills.
