Vancouver, BC September 30 – Columbus FC of the Vancouver Metro Soccer League took first place in Canada Soccer Western Masters Championships this past weekend in Saskatoon Saskatchewan.  While the men were battling it out in Saskatchewan , Coastal FC Supra played to a third place finish in the Canada Soccer Classics Championships in Quebec.  The Classics and Western Masters Championships are the highest level of club competition for these teams within the country.

“Columbus FC had an incredible year this year and to top it off by winning the Canada Soccer Western Masters is truly amazing,” said Rob Brown, BC Soccer Board of Directors. “This year alone they celebrated their 60th anniversary as a club, won the BC Soccer Provincial Championships, were inducted into the Canada Soccer Hall of Fame and won the Canada Soccer Western Masters Championships.”

Columbus FC faced the Rovers from Manitoba in the first match of the championships and after a tough 90 minutes the Rovers came out on top 2-0.  After the first match loss to the Rovers, Columbus FC stepped up their level of play and beat Arsenal, from Saskatchewan, 4-0 before taking the first place finish with a 1-0 win of Alberta’s representative, Victoria.

The over 35 Women’s Classic took place in Quebec where BC’s Representative Coastal FC Supra finished in third place.  After a 0-0 tie against Quebec Des Rivieres, Supra played to a 1-0 loss against the eventual tournament winners and Ottawa representatives,The Royals.  The hard fought loss and disappointment was short lived though as Coastal FC Supra won a shootout against the Quebec representatives which gave them a berth into the third and fourth place match.  Manitoba’s Classics FC were up next for Coastal FC Supra and the women played one of their best matches of the tournament beating the Classics 4-0 to take third place.
