February 18, 2022 – Vancouver BC

Last Friday, League1 BC announced the 100-day countdown to opening weekend via Twitter (@league1BC) and Instagram (@league1bc).  Today, BC’s new semi-professional, standards-based adult league for males and females, is pleased to release the full schedule for the 2022 inaugural season!

The first ever League1 BC season will feature each club playing six (6) home and six (6) away games between May 22nd and July 24th, with the Championship Finals scheduled for the BC Day long weekend.

“We can mark our calendars now because we have an inaugural season upon us! Over this summer, it will be absolutely thrilling to see communities coming together to support their clubs. If there was ever a time to come and support local soccer, now is the time.” said Gabriel Assis, BC Soccer Director of Operations.

The historic first round will commence at Ken Woods Field within the National Soccer Development Centre, home of Whitecaps FC, as they entertain Victoria Highlanders starting with the women’s game at 1:00pm, followed by the men at 3:30pm.

TSS Rovers will make their long-awaited return to competitive action when they welcome Langley-based Unity FC at beautiful Swangard Stadium for 3:00pm and 5:30pm kick-offs.

The League’s third opening round game take place at Hillside Stadium in Kamloops where Rivers FC will host Altitude FC with kick-offs at 2:00pm, and 4:30pm.  Rivers FC will host all but one of its matchdays at the Thompson Rivers University based stadium, with their July 9th double header slated for McArthur Island Park when Unity FC travels to the Thompson Okanagan.

“I’m very excited to for the Inaugural season to get underway as it is a tremendous opportunity for Clubs and players to compete and succeed in a standards-based environment. L1BC fills a very important gap in the player pathway within B.C., and we look forward to fans and communities around the province to follow and support the players and Clubs throughout the season.” said Sian Bagshawe, League1 BC General Manager.

The remaining home openers will follow quickly, with Unity FC hosting Varsity FC at Chase Office Field on Thursday, May 26th at 6:00pm and 8:00pm.

Kinsmen Field will welcome fans for the first time as a League1 venue on Sunday, May 29th, when Whitecaps FC travels to North Vancouver to face Altitude FC.

Varsity FC welcome fans to Thunderbird Stadium UBC for the first time on Saturday, June 4th, with the Victoria Highlanders providing the opposition.  The league’s lone Island-based club will then have a quick turnaround for their inaugural home game the very next day as they welcome Whitecaps FC.  The Highlanders will continue playing their home matches at Centennial Stadium on the campus of UVic, as they did during their USL2 era.
