“It is wonderful to see the hard work of all of these referees pay off,” said Jose Branco, BC Soccer Referee Coordinator. “Michelle Pye, Robert Sawtell and Marie Soleil Beaudoin are all very experienced referees with some amazing accolades while Sebastian Crema and Jasmain Parr our two of BC’s most promising young referees and having them receive these acknowledgments and opportunities is incredible.”

On May 13, 2014 FIFA appointed four Canadian referees to officiate at the U20 Women’s World Cup and BC’s Michele Pye was one of those four.  Michelle currently is a registered referee with BC Soccer, a member of the BC Soccer Referee Committee and is the head referee with the Vancouver Metro Women’s League in Vancouver.  Michelle has been a FIFA referee since 2007 and has refereed in the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup as well as U17 Women’s CONCACAF Championships.

The 2014 Ray Morgan Award, presented to the referee whose performance at the national and international level is the most deserving of recognition for the year, was presented to Marie-Soleil Beaudoin who was a previous member of the BC Soccer referee candidates program.  Maries Soleil will also be helping develop young referees this year at the BC Soccer Female Referee Symposium which will be held in July at the BC Soccer Girls Provincial Cup in Chilliwack.

An honoured member of the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame, Bob Sawtell was one of the recipients of a Canada Soccer Association 2014 Award of Merit.  Bob Sawtell is also member of the BC Soccer Referees Committee and is a BC Soccer Life Member.  He was presented with the prestigious award at the 2014 Canada Soccer AGM which was held this past weekend in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Jasmain Parr and Sebastian Crema are two of British Columbia’s top young referees and both of them have been selected to attend the Canada Soccer Provincial Promotion Course in Ottawa on May 16 and May 17. The Provincial Promotion courses host referees who meet the requirements of Provincial Referees but are not yet on the stream to become National or International Officials.  The course helps develop young referees and helps promote them to the national and international officials stream.
