More Professional Opportunities Coming for Canadians within the MLS

BC Soccer is pleased to see Canada Soccer, US Soccer, and Major League Soccer working closely together to build more opportunities for Canadian players

Vancouver BC November 30, 2016 –  BC Soccer is excited to share the Canada Soccer announcement that Canada Soccer, US Soccer, and Major League Soccer (MLS) have been working closely to create more professional opportunities for Canadian players within the MLS.  The three organizations have just released details regarding Canadian Players being considered Domestic Players within MLS Rosters.

More information and all of the details can be found within Canada Soccer’s Release here:

BC Soccer is very pleased to see these organizations working closely together as it will greatly benefit players from BC and across the country.  Over the past few years BC Soccer, Vancouver Whitecaps FC and Canada Soccer have been working together to create a more streamlined and effective High Performance (HP) Pathway.  This High Performance Pathway is designed to help players transition into professional club environments.  Organizations at the provincial, national, and international level working closely together will benefit all players within the HP stream as it will create more consistent standards across all HP Environments while also creating more opportunities for youth players from British Columbia.

High performance soccer in British Columbia is defined by the Long Term Player Development aligned pathway that is player-centred and coach-led with optimal support to enable players to convert toward Canada Soccer National Team Programming.

The identified environments within BC’s high performance stream are the EA Sports BC Soccer Premier League, BC Soccer High Performance Program (HPP), Vancouver Whitecaps FC Male Residency and Female REX Program and Canadian Soccer Association National Teams Program; all of which work together in partnership to deliver high performance programming.
