BC Soccer excited to announce the players representing our province at upcoming Canada Summer Games in Niagra
The multi-sport Games (Males August 7 to August 12 and Females August 16 to 21) take place every 4 years bringing some of the best athletes across the country together for national competition.
Selection and preparation for the Soccer competition in Niagra is built into the BC Soccer Provincial Program which is designed to bring together identified players into training and game environments from the BC Soccer Premier League (BCSPL) and wider membership. Aligned with Canada Soccer’s Long-Term Player Development (LPTD) guidelines, the Provincial Program is primarily focused on the individual player and not the team as players develop at different rates, stages, and ages, thus each individual experiences a unique development path. In addition to supporting each player’s development, the program also aims to create an overall environment that allows scouting opportunities by Universities, Colleges, professional programming and ultimately Canada Soccer’s youth national teams programming.
We are pleased to introduce the players selected for the Canada Summer Games, including their respective member clubs:
Coaching the female team will be BC Soccer’s Female Development Lead Chelsey Hannesson, supported by former Provincial Program player and member of the 2021 female mentorship program, Camila Gomez of TSS Rovers FC. Leading the male team will be BC Soccer’s Director of Soccer Development Chris Cerroni, supported by BC Soccer’s Manager of Coaching Development Rob Csabai, while Luca Dalla Pace will be supporting both programs in the lead up to the Games as well as at the event in Niagra.
The Male team will face Newfoundland and Quebec in their group stage while the Female team (because of an uneven number of teams in the competition) will face a double header versus Quebec in their group stage. The teams will each play 5 games over a 6-day period to determine a final placing within the competition.
Luca Dalla Pace, BC Soccer’s Player Development Senior Coordinator, and lead of the Provincial Program says the Canada Summer games provides a special occasion for the players. “The games are a great opportunity for our players to experience a multi-sport event and to have that proud feeling of representing their Province. The players have shown a commitment to their development within the Provincial Program and for many who have already been selected for University or College, this event caps off their career in youth soccer.”
