Future of Sport in Canada Commission: Share your Experience

Sport plays a critical role in the fabric of Canadian life. From community playgrounds, cheering our favourite teams or watching Team Canada at the Olympics, sport brings all Canadians together in many important ways.

Sport is part of the culture of Canada and can shape lives and help build resilient and strong communities. However, with insufficient safeguards and accountability, sport can also do harm. Recent revelations by victims, survivors and advocates who have courageously shared their experiences have shocked our nation and brought to light systemic maltreatment that occurs at all levels and contexts of sport. These revelations have compelled an important examination of sporting life and culture in Canada.

"The numbers and statistics speak for themselves—sport is an integral part of British Columbia’s social fabric and economic engine," says Gabriel Assis, BC Soccer's Chief Executive Officer. "The path forward is clear. We must prioritize increased funding, modern governance structures, and equitable access to sport for all Canadians. The benefits of these strategic investments will be felt not just in the sporting arena, but across our communities, our economy, and our national identity."

In April, the Future of Sport in Canada Commission announced updates to its public online submission portal as part of the next phase of its mandate.

The Commission has now launched its public online survey to seek input from the Canadian public about their experiences in, and perspectives regarding the Canadian sport system. The survey will remain open until the publication of the Preliminary Report in late August 2025.
