Groundbreaking launches construction at Gates Park: home of the new BC Soccer Headquarters

Modern amenity will include a state-of-the-art soccer and community hub, a PoCo Soccer office, and BC Soccer’s new headquarters.

“We are excited to reach this milestone in the project. Our strong partnership with the City of Port Coquitlam and the commitment and support from our membership to create a hub for soccer in our Province has been terrific.” said Carlos Grosso, BC Soccer President.

The final design to build one of British Columbia’s largest training and recreational hubs for soccer in Port Coquitlam was revealed in 2023. The artistic renderings show a 1,200-seat grandstand covered by a sculpted wooden roof. This grandstand doubles as a fieldhouse, which includes a lobby, changing rooms, locker rooms, public washrooms, and an atrium that can be used for gatherings. The grandstand will be built adjacent to an upgraded field with state-of-the-art synthetic turf built to FIFA international competition standards, replacing the existing grass field that is under-utilized due to turf and drainage issues. There will also be covered team benches, field lighting, and a synthetic turf soccer warmup area.

“Our headquarters will support the delivery of programs that will benefits the entire soccer community in our Province. The facility will be a center of excellence for the delivery of coach and match official development courses, enhance offerings of player development initiatives and above all, bring together communities to compete and celebrate soccer in British Columbia.” Said Gabriel Assis, BC Soccer CEO.

The project is expected to be completed in 2026 and will bring a multi-million soccer hub to Port Coquitlam’s biggest park in the lead up to Canada hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup along with the U.S. and Mexico.
