League1 BC Granted entry into the Canadian Championship
League1 BC Teams will challenge the top Canadian Clubs for the Voyageurs Cup and a chance to compete in the CONCACAF Champions League
Following an inaugural season filled with tremendous club and individual performances on the field, League1 BC is honoured to be included in the Canadian Championship starting in 2023 alongside the two other League1 Canada representatives from League1 Ontario and PLSQ, the nine CPL clubs and three Canadian MLS clubs.
Gabriel Assis, BC Soccer Director of Soccer Operations and Chair of League1 BC Steering Group stated “We are thrilled to have our teams eligible for the Canadian Championship! The strategic vision for our league is to bridge the gap between the amateur and professional levels of the game. With teams from League1 BC Men’s division now eligible to enter the Canadian Championship, the pathway is solidified, adding more opportunities for players, a key component of the league.”
League1 BC General Manager, Sian Bagshawe, believes the inclusion of a League1 BC club in the competition continues to enhance the opportunities available to BC-based clubs and players. “The Canadian Championship is Canada Soccer’s highest domestic men’s professional soccer competition and the inclusion of a League1 BC club in the annual competition provides a platform for clubs and players to continue to showcase themselves against the very best in the country.”
The League1 BC’s representative in the 2023 Canadian Championship will be the League1 BC Men’s Finals Winners, TSS Rovers. The Club competed in the Finals against a formidable Varsity FC side and were victorious in a shootout at the end of a 1-1 tie in regulation time. The Richmond, BC-based club finished the 2022 regular season in second place in the 7-team Men’s division with a record of 5 Wins, 2 Losses and 5 Draws.
TSS Rovers will be the inaugural representative for League1 BC in the competition, scheduled to kick-off April 2023.
