The 2026 BC Soccer Futsal Provincial Championships

The first ever BC Soccer Futsal Provincial Championships were hosted at Simon Fraser University and two teams have earned the right to represent British Columbia at the Futsal National Championships in Calgary from April 9th-12th.

Zamyad FC of North Vancouver faced City Futsal Club of Port Moody in the men's Provincial Final. This was a tightly contested match with City Futsal Club jumping out to an early 2-1 lead, but Zamyad FC quickly turning it around for a 3-2 lead at the half.

The Port Moody club would claw back an early equalizer, but the team from North Vancouver would regain their lead and never look back. Zamyad FC are crowned Provincial Champions with a 7-4 win.

Not only was this match special because it was the first Futsal Provincial Championship match in BC, but Zamyad FC and City Futsal Club had players observing Ramadan, which means they competed while fasting. A true testament of their commitment both their sport and their religion.

On the Women's side, the Fort St.John Futsalistas squared up against NIFA Pacific FC in a true tale of two halves. Fort St. John had, by far, the furthest journey to the Provincial Championships but still brought the deepest bench, which might be how they pulled out the victory.

A competitive, back-and-forth, first half saw NIFA Pacific head into the break with a 5-4 lead. The second half, however, was a different story and Fort St. John's squad depth shined through. The match finished 14-5 and the Futsalistas will be British Columbia's representative at the Futsal National Championships.

The Futsalistas only became a BC Soccer member recently as they were previously members of Alberta Soccer due to geographical proximity. They became members of BC Soccer due to a mandate by Canada Soccer that stated clubs had to be members of the province that they are geographically located in. A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between BC Soccer and Alberta Soccer allows clubs close to the border to play in Alberta leagues, but they must enter the Provincial Championships in with the Provincial Sporting Organization they are members in.

Due to the fact that there are no established women's futsal leagues, NIFA and Fort St. John qualified as associate members operating house league futsal programming in response to our request for expressions of interest to participate in the provincial championships last November.

There are two sanctioned men's leagues that both put forward a qualified team: Pacific Futsal located in Richmond, represented by Zamyad FC, and Levo Futsal League from Coquitlam, represented by City Futsal Club.

Congratulations to all teams that competed in the first BC Soccer Futsal Provincial Championships. It's an exciting time for Futsal in BC and we look forward to growing the competition in 2027.
